Job Description Job Description Chief Estimator - Heavy Civil Construction Title: Chief Estimator - Heavy Civil Construction Location: Lakeside, CA 92040 (San Diego County) Salary: $140,000 - $200,000 Relocation Assistance Founded in 1926 we are a 150 employee general engineering contractor who has built a reputation as a leader in heavy civil construction across San Diego and Imperial Counties. We service industries such as transportation, infrastructure, and public works and we specialize in roads, bridges, underground utilities, fine grading & asphalt paving. With a strong backlog of projects ranging from $1M to $50M, and deep ties to Caltrans as a primary client we deliver complex projects with precision and efficiency. This Chief Estimator will lead the estimating team, oversee bid preparation & drive strategic pricing decisions to secure and manage major public works contracts. What You Will Be Doing - Lead and mentor a team of estimators, ensuring accuracy and consistency in bids - Prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil projects including roads, bridges, underground utilities, and paving - Oversee bid strategy and submission for projects ranging from $1M to $50M, aligning with company backlog goals - Collaborate with project managers and executives to evaluate risk, scope, and profitability - Implement and optimize estimating software tools (InEight preferred, HCSS acceptable) to streamline workflows What You Need for this Position - 10 years in heavy civil construction estimating w/ emphasis on roads, bridges & paving - Knowledge of Caltrans specifications, bidding processes & public works requirements (plus) - Expertise in crew-based estimating techniques and interpretation of cost data - Proficiency with estimating software (InEight ideal, HCSS or equivalent acceptable) - Leadership ability to manage a small team of estimators and coordinate with operations staff What's In It for You Full Benefits Package (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, LTD/STD, 401k w/ match) and more!
